Luxury property in Lisbon - Palace Pintéus

Lisbon

This spectacular palace was built in the 17th century in the outskirts of Lisbon and hosted King João V on his frequent visits to Mafra during the construction of the Mafra Convent.
Later it became the residence of a famous Portuguese writer, Maria Amália Vaz de Carvalho and her husband Gonçalves Crespo, and became well known for literary soirées attended by famous people such as Tomás Ribeiro, Castilho and Mendes Leal.
A famous Portuguese “fadista” bought it more than 40 years ago and undertook the laborious task of restoring the ruins to their original magnificence.
The imposing façade is dominated by the Azevedo Coutinho family crest of arms and the abundant original tiles of the patio and the terrace represent hunting scenes and landscapes. The dining hall was refurbished by D. João V’s servers.

Another terrace boasts beautiful tiles with allegoric representations of the Four Seasons. The chapel is separate from the Palace and is consecrated to Our Lady (Nossa Senhora da Apresentação) and presents a gilded dome and an altar. Both the interior and the portico are covered in 17c. tiles depicting Biblical scenes.
The Palace is surrounded by approximately 4000m2 of gardens with a lake plus 3000m2 of olive trees.
