Marbella – a top tourist destination

Marbella has been at the top of the list of most popular tourist destinations for decades, both on a national level and European level. There are many tourists and people in search of a new place of residence that opt for this gorgeous Andalucian city. Thanks to private enterprises and the collaboration of public institutions, Marbella is converting itself into one of the world’s top tourist destinations.

Marbella - a top tourist destination

Private promoters have been responsible for the construction of luxury apartments and villas, while the public authorities have concentrated on improving its features and services available to its citizens.

Most attractive area of Marbella – the historic quarter

Amongst these improvements, the Ayuntamiento de Marbella has made an important investment for the maintenance of the city, starting with the restructuring of the historic quarter.

Amid its areas that are being refurbished are the Plaza de los Naranjos, a small square opened in 1485 and framed by cobbled streets and gorgeous buildings, in addition to a wide range of shops, cafés and restaurants.

The rehabilitation of the urban fabric of the city centre will continue through streets located to the north of the Plaza de los Naranjos, an area which according to the new mayor, Mr José Bernal, was completely forgotten by the previous local government. With a budget of 1.8 million euro approved for the redevelopment of the Calle Lobatas, Calle Rafina and Calle Aduar streets, it is hoped that this area of the city will recover its former splendour and attract an increased number of visitors. The refurbishment work is expected to last six months and will concentrate on the improvement of its sewage network and street lighting system, in addition to the refurbishment of the streets so that they appear more attractive.

Real estate investment in Marbella

With the aim of conserving its status as a top tourist destination and to attract a larger number of international investors, the Ayuntamiento de Marbella is remodelling other streets and squares like the Plaza Antonio Banderas in the Puerto Banús and setting up the streets and sidewalks in Nueva Andalucía. They have also taken care of the maintenance of gardens and streets in other areas of the city.

These measures are a plus for Marbella that without a doubt will continue to attract national and foreign investors given the high quality lifestyle that it offers.
