Happy Birthday Switzerland

August 1st marks the Swiss National Day where all Swiss celebrate the foundation of the Swiss Confederacy. It’s a day full of pride about the well-known Swissness loved by so many.

Here in Ticino with its Swiss Mediterranean Lifestyle, people celebrate at home, on one of the beaches of the beautiful lakes Lago Maggiore or Lago di Lugano or they spend their day along one of the rivers like the Maggia. Of course, restaurants will be packed as well since this is one of the, if not the most important holiday in Switzerland (even it’s on a Sunday this year).

Traditionally, the day is going to be celebrated big in Ascona, the secretly called St. Tropez of Lago Maggiore. The village right on the shores of Lago Maggiore will lure its residents and visitors with plenty of attractions. Focus point of festivity will be the beautiful promenade. Drinks, tasty grilled traditional Ticino dainties and music everywhere make the promenade a huge party mile. The highlight will be the grandiose fire works in the night which will last at least a half hour over the Ascona bay. Lugano is going to be the second celebration epicentre in Ticino. Parties, music, fine food and of course fireworks will define the day in Lugano too.

Many of the famous 5* hotels such as Giardino, Eden Roc, Villa Principe Leopoldo and many others will offer special venues with live music and fine dining. Also, one of Ascona’s late culinary attractions, the Ristorante Seven Ascona, is offering a special gala menu created by Ivo Adam, one of Switzerland’s most famous chefs.

We are pretty sure that all Swiss citizen living abroad will celebrate the day almost in the same manner and think about their home – at least for a moment.

Happy 1st of August to all our Swiss folks out there!
