Yachts cut through the Sardinian watersWith the stunning Sardinian waters acting as a backdrop on a beautiful sunny day on the Costa Smeralda, Saturday 14 September 2014 marked the close of the eighteenth edition of the Rolex Swan Cup & Swan 45 World Championship. The competitions united six impressive fleets, divided over different categories, and more than 90 yachts which battled against each other on the clear waters of the Costa Smeralda for a period of one week. The event was a truly thrilling spectacle for both sailing experts and spectators alike.

The spoils went to the following teams in their six respective Swan categories:

• Wohpe (Bavaria, Germany) – Swan 60
• Nikata (Great Britain) – Swan 82
• Yasha (Japanese) – Swan 56
• Finola (Great Britain) – Swan 36
• Earlybird (Germany) – Swan 45
• Natalia (Romania) – Swan 42

Beautiful landscapes on the Costa SmeraldaAs is customary each year, the award ceremony lit up the Piazza Azzurra in Porto Cervo to celebrate the winning teams and officially bring the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda’s 2014 sailing season to a close. The sporting calendar will recommence in March 2015, when the second edition of the Rolex Swan Cup Caribbean will take place in Caribbean waters at the YCCS’s winter base in Virgin Gorda (British Virgin Islands). As always, this competition will be disputed by yachts from the Nautor’s Swan fleet.

Riccardo Bonadeo, YCCS Commodore, stated he was pleased with the continued enthusiasm surrounding the Rolex Swan Cup year after year, and warmly invited everyone to come together once again for the following edition of the Cup. Considering the steady rise in interest over recent years, the event promises to offer ever-more exciting yacht racing between increasingly-advanced boats and experienced crews.
