Porto Cervo all set to host the 2014 sailing season finale: the Rolex Regattas

Summer truly brings out the best in Sardinia, accentuating the beauty of its wonderful coasts, white sandy coves and exquisite blue seas. During this period, the island offers endless opportunities for enjoyment and relaxation to people of all ages.

Sail boats cutting through the seaIn just a few weeks, preparations will begin in Porto Cervo for two of the biggest sailing races of the season: the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup (between 31 August and 6 September) and the Rolex Swan Cup (from 8 to 14 September).

These competitions act as the respective World Championships for the Mini Maxi and Swan 45 classes. Both are set to attract thousands of sailing lovers to the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda in Porto Cervo, including experts and enthusiasts of the sport.

To mark the occasion, the Costa Smeralda’s glistening blue waters will be navigated by 36 sail boats in the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup and more than 86 boats for the Rolex Swan Cup. Both modern, high-performance vessels and elegant, vintage yachts will make up the majestic parade of boats that will grace the Sardinian waters during the coming weeks.

Yachts on crystal clear seasThe various fleets that will compete for the world titles include returning contenders as well as newcomers. They will be led by famous names in the sport, including Niklas Zennstrom and Hap Fauth, and will be made up of recently-formed, promising crews. Representing Italy is the yacht Robertissima, which is owned by YCCS member Roberto Tomasini Grinover.

Together with these sporting competitions, Porto Cervo will also play host to a full calendar of social events over the coming weeks. Held in the beautiful Piazza Azzurra and aimed at boat owners and crews, the events will include private dinners, cocktail receptions, parties, post-race refreshments and award ceremonies between 6 and 14 September.

This promises to be a fitting conclusion to what has been a spectacularly lively season. Make sure you do not miss out on the grand finale!
