Temples of well-being and spas in Berlin

Berlin offers a great number of establishments which offer relaxing massages and treatments such as thermal baths and spas in which you can unwind and keep away from the winter’s cold.

The Vabali spa, an authentic refuge in the heart of the city

Outdoor pool at the Vabali Spa

Despite the fact that Berlin is a bustling city, particularly in areas such as those surrounding the Hauptbahnhof, located between the districts of Mitte and Moabit, there are various wellness centres that offer a refuge where you can escape from the daily routine. One of these, the biggest in the country, is the Vabali Spa. This luxurious spa welcomes its guests with the pleasant smell of incense and relaxing music, as well as stunning decorations with statues and carvings from Indonesia. With a floor space of 20,000m2 the spa includes both outdoor and indoor swimming pools, as well as 11 saunas that are located inside and in the marvellous gardens. It is also possible to enjoy fantastic massages and ayurvedic treatments in order to unwind or try exquisite international dishes in the restaurant. As a member, you can enjoy other facilities including a gym and various classes.

The Liquidrom, a zen sanctuary

Liquidrom

Located in the old station of Anhalt is the Tempodrom, a concert hall that also houses the Liquidrom, a fabulous sanctuary of relaxation. The interior features a small grotto, lit by soft lights with a large circular salt water swimming pool. Thanks to the high levels of salt in the water, it is possible to float and relax whilst listening to live music. Clients can also enjoy relaxing massages with aromatic oils and hot stones or make use of the Turkish bath, the sauna and the heated outdoor swimming pool, located on the zen terrace.

Express relaxation treatments

You don’t always need hours and hours in order to relax in some wellness centres, short treatments can also be very effective and make the perfect solution for those who don’t have much time. One of the establishments that offers this kind of service is the Yi Spa, located in the Mitte district. Whilst its speciality are Hawaiian Lomi Lomi massages, they also invite their clients to try more exotic treatments such as relaxing baths in chocolate or cinnamon, coconut exfoliation treatments and mango facials. Nonetheless, those who prefer something a bit more traditional can enjoy hot stone or Thai massages. For those who are busier, the spa offers an anti-stress massage that lasts just half an hour but will, without a doubt, leave you feeling brand new.

Rediscovering ancient relaxation techniques

The Ruhepool Berlin well-being centre

In the Prenzlauer Berg district of Berlin, there is a centre that has rediscovered the ancient techniques of healing and relaxation, the Ruhepool. One of these techniques consists of a pleasant bath in hot water with added hay that has a purifying and stimulating effect on your immune system, but it also offers Japanese baths next to a fire. In addition, you can relax whilst enjoying all kinds of massages such as a towel massage with lavender aromatic oil or a complete purifying massage as well as other beauty treatments.

Hotels with a spa, a luxury experience

The relaxation room at the Spa Ono in the Mandala Hotel

Berlin also features a number of luxury hotels with spas. But it is not just tourists who are benefiting from this relaxing experience. The 11th floor of the Mandala hotel houses the Ono Spa, a centre of well-being that offers its clients a great variety of beauty and relaxation treatments, massages, sauna, a 25 metre reflexology walking path and a Iyashi Dôme detoxification bed.

Furthermore, the Le Prairie Boutique spa in the Ritz Carlton luxury hotel includes a Turkish bath and numerous saunas, as well as a delightful marble swimming pool and exquisite mosaics that are reminiscent of A Thousand and One Nights.

With a more purist design, the Das Stue hotel, next to Tiergarten, also allows visitors who are not staying in the hotel, with a reservation. Here you can be pampered and try different cosmetic treatments and massages with natural products by Susanne Kaufmann.

Relax like a Hollywood star

The Cowshed Spa in the Soho hotel, located on the Torstraße in the centre of Berlin, is one of the centres that allows its guests and external clients to enjoy its facilities. The spa includes a steam room, sauna and Turkish bath, as well as various treatments with cosmetic products made by the spa. This is a temple of well-being with a brilliant reputation that includes amongst its clients actors such as George Clooney.
