When you think about the Greek Islands, what comes to your mind? Probably endless images of paradisiacal beaches and coastal towns with whitewashed houses with blue domes, doors and shutters. This unique architecture is perhaps the most recognisable image of the islands, but in this post, we want to show you houses that go beyond this standard. If you are interested in properties for sale in the Greek Islands, we invite you to discover a selection of three gem properties belonging to the portfolio of our member Ploumis Sotiropoulos.
Villa in Mykonos: the cosmopolitan island par excellence in the Aegean Sea
Built in 2004 atop a hill featuring thick walls of natural stone is found this luxury villa in Mykonos situated within close proximity to the new marina and the city centre. The property has a surface of 595m2 organised into two floors consisting of five en-suite bedrooms. It is equipped with modern installations, an apartment for the caretaker, a large pool and a wide garden of 200 m2.
Extras: rustic-style flooring, ceilings with elegant wooden beams which create cosy spaces, as well as several outdoor areas from which magnificent views can be admired.
House in Kea: the island with the most traditional character
In the heart of the Aegean Sea, specifically located in the Kea island raises this elegant 3-room villa. As the previous one, it is a stone-built house but with a more modern design. Its spacious terrace with barbecue area and swimming pool as well as the garden of 1,672m2 make it the perfect home to enjoy the summer with family and friends. In its indoor spaces the stone is also present as in the lounge’s fireplace which creates a charming contrast with the nude colours of the walls.
It is worth mentioning that although its architectonic design is far from the typical whitewashed houses, a distinctive element has been preserved: the shutters. These shutters open onto the outdoor area offering spectacular views of the surroundings.
Villa in Kythnos: the most tranquil island in the Cyclades islands
Finally, we want to present you a beautiful villa for sale in the Kythnos island, in the archipelago of the Cyclades islands. Its design is probably the most similar to that Greek archetype of whitewashed houses but we couldn’t miss out on the opportunity to include it. The property has a surface of 298m2 and a total of six cosy bedrooms.
Its exterior mixes whitewashed walls with stone walls that give the villa character. The terraces and pergolas provide chill-out areas in which to enjoy the views, especially of the pool and the sea. The white colour extends to the interior spaces found in rounded walls with small alcoves and high ceilings with beams that provide a bright atmosphere.
Although these properties have a Mediterranean style influence, they present a fresher and more elegant touch.
